Arlington, VA — Today, Tenley Peterson announced the endorsements of Arlington County Board Chair Libby Garvey (serving since 2012) and former Chair and County Board member Christian Dorsey (served 2016–2023). Tenley Peterson is seeking the Democratic nomination for an open seat on the Arlington County Board in 2024.

Dorsey, a two-term County Board member, stated, “Having known Tenley over this past decade, I don’t exaggerate in saying that she lives to serve Arlington. Her progressive values center on making sure the best of Arlington is available to all, and she has the talent and experience to make sure this is reflected in our government. I strongly urge you to rank her #1 in the upcoming Democratic Primary for Arlington County Board.”

Garvey, a three-term County Board member and four-term School Board member, stated, “Tenley is a rare gem. Her background on the planning and budget commissions means she is more than ready to effectively serve Arlington on day one. More importantly, her style of working with everyone and generating consensus demonstrates her commitment to all of Arlington. I strongly urge everyone to rank Tenley #1 on or before June 18th.”

In response to both endorsements, Peterson said, “I am honored to have both Libby’s and Christian’s endorsements. In my decade of commission work, both Libby and Christian have been important partners in helping to ensure our budgets and land use decisions reflect our community values and that they prioritize people.”

In addition to Garvey and Dorsey, Peterson has received the endorsements of former County Board members Katie Cristol, Jay Fisette, and 35 current and former Arlington County Commissioners and Councilors.

Tenley Peterson is the current Vice Chair of Arlington County’s Planning Commission and the former Chair of the Fiscal Affairs Advisory Commission. Peterson is also an APS substitute teacher, mom of three, union member, and a communications professional. Peterson is a progressive Democrat who believes that a public servant’s number one responsibility is putting people first when making policy decisions. If elected, Peterson will bring experience, pragmatism, and kindness to the County Board to find solutions that work for all of Arlington.
