ARLINGTON, VA—Today, Tenley Peterson announced the endorsement of State Senator Barbara Favola. Tenley Peterson is seeking the Democratic nomination for an open seat on the Arlington County Board in 2024.
Citing Peterson’s decade of experience as a County Commissioner and her progressive record favoring Arlington’s nationally-recognized Smart Growth strategy, Senator Favola stated, “Tenley is a mother, a substitute teacher and a community leader. She will guide Arlington’s growth in a sustainable way and ensure that equity and inclusiveness are the cornerstones of County decisions.” She continued, “I trust her to represent us at our best and to ensure that the Arlington Public Schools get the necessary resources to innovate and thrive. I hope you can join me supporting Tenley Peterson.” During her last year on the County Board, Senator Favola supported Peterson's first appointment to Arlington’s Fiscal Affairs Advisory Commission, a position Peterson held for four terms.
Peterson responded, “I am deeply honored to receive Senator Favola’s endorsement. She has been a steadfast champion for women’s and human rights and a lifelong public servant, including fourteen years as an Arlington County Board member. On the County Board, she improved mental health services for children in public schools, increased investments in affordable housing, and enhanced environmental protections. I am inspired by her legacy and look forward to the opportunity to build on her work for the betterment of our community.”
Peterson is a six-term Arlington County Commissioner, including four years of service as Chair of the Fiscal Affairs Advisory Commission and her current service as the Vice Chair of the Planning Commission and Chair of its Site Plan Review Committee Sub-group.
